  1. HI, I just heard a little info on VCMC... They do't let dad's stay with mom and baby over night???? Any one involved in birth , knows these are the presious hours....For bonding ,etc.. Is this a rumor or do they pick and choose what "KIND" of couple can stay with each other... Laura RAmirez

    1. I'm just checking out this group for the first time and I see this post is quite old but thought I'd reply in case someone is still interested in this question. I gave birth at VCMC in November of 2010 and my husband was allowed to stay over night with us. I don't know if there's any truth to them only allowing certain "kinds" of couples but I was transferred there from a birth center due to complications. So maybe they viewed me as one of those "crazy" woman who want to birth out of hospital and figured I'd raise hell if they didn't allow it (which I would have) and just let us slide. I don't really know, but I do know they allowed it for us so I'd just say to advocate for yourselves if you must birth there.

  2. Hello Laura, it is my understanding that because VCMC (Ventura County Medical Center) is unable to guarantee a private postpartum room, that they do not allow any over night visitors. This includes fathers. It is my understanding that this policy is simply to ensure the privacy and comfort of all women in the postpartum rooms.

As with most issues, BAC recommends that women check with the hospital and their care provider regarding any policies or procedures that they have questions about.

    Thanks for your question.
